Dr. Anna Ciurlo, an astrophysicist at UCLA, studies the motion of gas and stars near the supermassive black hole at the Galactic Center. Her work focuses on how material behaves in this extreme environment, helping scientists better understand how black holes grow and interact with their surroundings.
Dr. Ciurlo is part of the research team whose groundbreaking observations helped confirm the existence of a supermassive black hole at the center of our galaxy, work that contributed to the 2020 Nobel Prize in Physics.
